(Hood) 11 : 8

And if We delay the punishment from them for a fixed term, verily they will ask: “What keeps it back?” Know that on the Day when it comes to them, it will not be averted from them, and they will be affected by whatever they had been ridiculing.

For wrongdoers, all the evils of their earnings will be disclosed, and the consequences of what they have been ridiculing will affect them. For them, whatever things they possess on Earth, and even an equal amount, they would be willing to give as a ransom, but it won’t be accepted from them, as explained in verse 6:28. It is told in verses 45:32-33: “When it was said to the Mujirims who had made their food rejecting Adhikr in this world: 'Indeed, the promise of the Lord is True and the Hour, there is no doubt about It,' they will say: 'We do not know what is the Hour. We think it is only a conjecture, and we are not convinced.’ And the evil consequences of what they did will appear to them in the Hereafter, and they will be affected by whatever they had been ridiculing.”

As explained in verse 2:212: “Indeed, the Mujirims are mocking at the believers in this world, and whenever they passed them, they used to wink at each other in mockery, and they returned to their own family jokingly. And whenever they see the believers, they would say these are the strayed people, but they are not sent as the custodians of the believers. On the Day of Judgment, the believers will be laughing at these Fujjar.” See explanation 3:91; 5:60, and 6:10.
